# Handling Markup Response

The interpretation of the spoken word or sentence scores remains the same as described in the sections under [Score Text/Pronunciation](https://api-docs.speechace.com/api-reference/score-text-pronunciation). The difference is that the expected phonemes in a word can be provided by the developer (as explained in the [guide](https://api-docs.speechace.com/guides-on-common-topics/markup-language)), rather than being determined automatically by SpeechAce.
